eSign.co.nz provides you with the ability to create a legally binding electronic signature to conveniently Sign documents and agreements.

Documents can be created or uploaded then signed and stored online using the eSign.co.nz website.

  An electronic signature is defined as a sound, symbol or process, attached to or logically associated with a document or agreement and executed by a person with the intent to sign the record.

  Are electronic signatures legal in New Zealand?
 

Yes electronic signatures are legal within New Zealand and other countries around the world.
eSign.co.nz complies with the Electronic Transactions Act 2002 which confirms an electronic signature has the same legal effect as pen and paper provided;

  • The electronic signature adequately identifies the signatory and approval.
  • All parties involved consent to using and receiving electronic signatures.
  • Each signatory is under control of the signatory and no other person.
  • All transactions are secure and auditable.

The Electronic Transactions Act is based on the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).

  How Safe is eSign.co.nz?
 

eSign.co.nz complies with the Electronic Transactions Act 2002 and New Zealand laws by providing several functions:

  • All members consent to using and receiving electronic signatures.
  • The means of creating an electronic signature are under the control of the signatory and no one else.
  • All actions performed on an electronic document are detectable through the websites document history and readily accessible by all interested parties.
  • All data, information and signatures retained by the website (www.esign.co.nz) identify the origin of the electronic signature ("Sender"), destination ("Signer") and the time the electronic action took place. Readily accessible for subsequent use.
  • Clearly establishes intent to sign.

  How Secure is eSign.co.nz?
 

The eSign.co.nz website includes several functions to ensure your security while logged in as a member.

  • Confidential email Address and Password
    This information is collected upon registration and necessary when logging in as a member to use the website.
  • Encryption
    eSign.co.nz uses 128 Bit Secure Socket layer (SSL) encryption to control and protect data communicated between our servers and your web browsers.

    By using 128 Bit SSL; this means a hacker would need to break 128 consecutive random characters.

    SSL encryption can be identified by ensuring the web address starts with https:// (HyperText Transport Protocol Secure.) as opposed to http:// (HyperText Transport Protocol) along with a padlock displayed at the end of the address bar.
  • Session Timeout
    Your eSign.co.nz connection will automatically time out if left unattended to prevent others creating and signing documents on your behalf.

    It is recommended you Log out of eSign.co.nz when leaving your PC unattended.
  • Lockout
    To prevent unauthorised access your eSign.co.nz account will be locked after 3 invalid login attempts.
    Your password can be reset by answering a secret question, and new password sent to you
  • Time you last logged in
    To ensure no one else is using your account, you are provided with a timestamp (date and time) of the last time you logged in as a member.

Security recommendations include:

  • Always logging out of your eSign.co.nz account.
  • Being careful when using public computers. (i.e.: not storing confidential documents on shared computers.)
  • Ensuring your email address and password are kept confidential and secure at all times.
